This darling flower has a slightly scary name—two, in fact. The name "scabiosa" hearkens back to the days when it was used medicinally as a cure for scabies. Nowadays, you may know it better as "pincushion flower," which it earned due to the prickly seed heads it forms after the petals fade. In reality, though, scabiosa is the least frightening flower imaginable: it's small plush blooms are a treat to behold, both in the garden and on the table, fresh or dried.
